First look at Cincinnati

It all happened suddenly. It was only a week before that I was enjoying the time at going through the same routine of traveling on Hosur Road, morning and evening, in that traffic and thought it was the way of life now, for some time to come. Then there was always my parents and home food to look forward to when I was at home. I soon had to leave all that back for a new experience of my life.
I had to travel to Cincinnati over some project assignment and hence left the shores of India for the first time. I was very nervous, apprehensive about living alone and about the immigration process really. I hadn't any time to be completely mentally prepared for this.
Even at the airport, i was having that odd feeling. Nervousness overshadowed the expectancy and the excitement. For a not so frequent traveler in planes, the visiting of 3 airports in a day was way too unusual.
Most of the things looked new and I was visiting the Bangalore International Airport for the first time, and was happy to see that it did not deserve all the bashing people were giving it till now.
I fell in love with the Paris airport. I wondered the beauty of Paris City by just looking at the airport.
I landed in the Cincinnati airport, all left alone and no one to turn to for guidance. My manager did not sound too responsive when I spoke to him from India. I took a taxi and went to the accommodation. Snow covered all over the place and roads that were too empty.
Either the roads were big and wide or there were no people around at all. I mean imagine me traveling on Hosur road the day before with buses almost abutted to each other and here one vehicle might pass yours in every 2 minutes.
It has been a week now here at Cincinnati. Work has not got into the 4th gear yet. I could not eat Pizzas daily at office. That was the only Veg option available there. I started cooking my lunch as well. Me and my roomie have had some amazing food though.
The manager who was so unresponsive when spoken from India was more than helpful when we met and spoke here. The first day I went to the office, they took me to a nice Indian restaurant named 'Ammas Kitchen'. The food is just awesome there. Ive already gone there twice till now.
Ive cooked some amazing food here myself. Cooked Vegitable sabji a few times. First time the amount of salt was less but then on it has come out good. I cooked Pulav,Sambar and Dal for the first time. Pulav was just awesome, Dal and Sambar was good. Well all I can say is that ill surely become a good cook here. Im just loving the experience.
The weather is too unpredictable and fluctuating here. It is cold tough. I never thought I would say 0 degree Celsius is manageable and not cold some day in my life. I had probably experienced 0 C a couple of time earlier and that was too cold for me. my hands all paining and the face turning all numb. But now 0 C is really manageable when compared to -12, -8 C. The worst part is people say here that Officially the winter in US starts today, the 21st Dec. What can i say, Ill have to get though -20 C is what they told. no way out. When i look out of my window now as i write and see sunlight. With what ive seen this last couple of weeks, sunlight surely means another snowfall later in the day.
Well will share all the other experiences of my travel and stay later. It would continue probably till the excitement dies down.
Well you can have a look at the snaps here

Hyderabad Tour Dairy

I had been to hyderabad for a weekend of Nov 29 and 30. I dint have time to share it with you, so im writing about it now.
I had a few very sorrow moments and had the chance to see one of the most sacred ceremonies of my very good friend. All this was happening so fast that I had a tough time catching up to the moment.
Me and Vijay had decided to attend my friends wedding in Hyderabad and we were so close to missing it out. It was that kinda week and friday of the Nov 28. Cant forget that Friday for some time to come.
I had loads of work and formalities related to my US travel yet to do and pressure was mounting on me to finish the formalities at the earliest. By the way im in the US right now.
Then had some urgent work and so had to go out of office and had to travel by bus for that. Came back to office at 3 finished some sort of formalities and then headed to the bus stand by 4:15. Vijay on the other hand had soo many meeting that now he was doubtful of making it to HYD. Then by 4:40 we reached the bus stand and somehow I asked the bus driver to wait as Vijay was still running todards the bus. He made it finally.
The best thing that happened was that my US traveling date got fixed for Dec 6th. This date enabled me to attend my friends wedding. Im sooo happy for that.
I had been to Hyderabad to attend my very good friends wedding. Reached HYD a day earlier so had time to visit some known places in HYD. Visited the Sailar Jung museum, Char Minar and of course had a small walk around the Hussain Sagar Lake. Then it was time next day to attend the wedding. Had loads of fun. Met few friends and then just to be part of this amazing experience for my friend and to be part of their happiness was a very happy experience.
The first day, we had been to the Sailar Jung museum which took a lot of time and walking. The museum was truly amazing. Royalty and more royalty all around. Almost had to do away with my camera. Luckily I reached in time to reclaim my darling camera.
I had been to HYD earlier once but dint have time at all to look at the city and this time since I had the time, i coudnt have missed the Char Minar. I convinced Vijay that i had to see it and then we headed straight to Char Minar. It is a beautiful structure. Nice architecture of the old times right in the middle of the road. We reached slightly after 5:30 so could not get into the gate and climb the stairs and get the view from the top of the Char Minar. So had to contend ourselves with the outside view. Tried taking snaps from all different angles. Then we reached the Jamma Masjid side of the Char Minar. The Jamma Masjid is such a huge masjid and amazing place of worship. It symbolizes Islam in a way. What a beauty. Then i got a crazy Idea. To get the snap of the Char Minar, I walked right to the middle of the road and started clicking the snaps of the Char Minar trying to get the complete Char Minar in the frame. Luckily i got some of those and then it was time for some more crazyness. Me and Vijay then went to the middle of the road and started taking snaps of us with the Char Minar in the back ground. All the vehicles of HYD were passing within a few centimeters of us. That was an Experience.

Here are some snaps of that crazy photography session in the middle of the road...

The marvelous Jamma Masjid

Me and Vijay in the middle of the road... I like the effects of vehicles passing just beside us

After his we just went to a Mall named I Max. We heard it as I BEX from people when we inquired where we could find a mall. Even the auto driver took us to I MAX when we told him I BEX. After some time in the Mall we walked around the Hussain Sagar lake for some time. What a huge lake... It just looks amazing. The Buddha Statue in the middle of the lake is awesome. Cant believe they had to let such a great statue be submerged inside the water for so many years. Also i was dissapointed not to have been to the Hussain Sagar lake duing the daytime due to want of time. Cos i couldnt get a decent snap of such a wornderful lake. We headed home after that and the next day was the wedding day.
We reached the wedding hall on time according to the muhurtam, but realized that we were the very first few guests present there apart from the families of the bride and the groom. Then some other friends came and we had such a wonderful time. I was overjoyed to be there at that time for the wedding and then had to say goodbye to HYD cos we had a bus to catch. We left HYD with many happy memories.
Well i almost forgot...
The last time I visited HYD it was in April and it was sooo hot that it was some what unbearable. This time it was end of november, so we dint expect it to be hot anyways, but then it turned out to be raining in HYD at that time. Luckily I had carried my umbrella and Vijay well dint have one. So when he actually bought one, it never rained when we were on the roads... Well it always happens like this...
Will cherish this Hyderabad trip...

Tricolor on the moon

It has been a great last week for Indian space research and space exploration. We have at last reached the moon. It is possibly the greatest achievement for India in terms of heading towards an elite club of nations who have reached the moon earlier. But one cannot beat India in one thing - It is the cheapest moon mission ever. No other country has accomplished a moon mission with so less a budget.

The MIP is out there taking snaps, videos and surveying the moon surface somewhere near the south pole of the moon. Now where the hell is the south pole on the moon???
The chandrayaan 1 mission is a 2 Year mission and will wait and watch what other stuff the MIP does on the moon.
Way to go ISRO...
It just feels amazing now to look at the moon and believe that our Tricolor is on the moon.

End of Jumbo, beauty, Brains and Acting

The last week has been amazing in terms of news...
Not just for the viewers but more so for the news channels. They got a news that they could play throughout the day as Breaking news and have a few interviews and opinion polls on their channels...

Anil Kumble retired from Test cricket after the 3rd test match between Ind and Aus. It was a sad moment for Indian cricket. The most deserving cricketer in terms of appreciation, but a person who never got his due left a big void in Indian cricket when he announced his retirement.

I saw the Amir khan ad for Tata sky and was amazed by the idea and the acting behind that ad. The idea of showing Amir khan doing some household work without even giving a hint that it is a Tata sky ad and then following it up with the scene between him and Gul Panag was just amazing. The situation was so real and the acting made it even more believable and relatable with every day life. Just love that ad...
Ohh one more thing... we all have seen beauties along the way... well just loved the way Gul Panag looks in that ad... She is such a beauty, couldn't stop admiring her beauty...
Lovely looks, and good acting skills, wonder why she doesn't act in many movies...

Chennai Tour Dairy - Day 2

To continue my Chennai - Tour Dairy...
It was raining cats and dogs when due to noise of the rain and thunder, i woke up. Not at the time of my alarm at 4:45 am but at 3:45 am. Tried sleeping again but time flew and heard the sound of my alarm ringing.
Got ready fast and got going by 6:30. Finished our work much earlier and returned back, again in the rain at 9:30 to our guest house. The work got over surprisingly quickly. We never expected to return that early...
We had missed break fast cos the timings for breakfast in the guest house was from 7:00 am to 10:30 am. Now that we returned early we headed straight to the dining hall. The guy had switched on the Ind vs Aus cricket match and Ind had just picked up the 6th Aussie wicket. We picked up the plates, made ourselves comfortable while watching the match. Luckily the day was awesomely good. Our work went on well, Ind was wining and we dint have to stay hungry till lunch, what more can we ask for...
Well after a heavy breakfast, we freshened up and i started packing my stuff as i had to leave to Bangalore in the 3:30 train... After packing most of my stuff, we headed back to the drawing hall to continue watching the cricket match... India was on the verge of a a famous win...
We couldn't expect a better setting... Around 7 Infy guys all who were strangers till some time back, On a Tuesday at around 11 in the morning, in casuals, keeping our feet up, relaxing a watching India win the match, In a guest house in Chennai and enjoying to the fullest with no work on our minds...We wanted such days to come very frequently...
It was soon realized that one guy lost his mobile in the train as it fell down from his pocket and out of the train on the railway track... He goes to register a complaint in the police station about the loss and the police guys tells him to report the matter to a station near the loss... He couldn't tell if there was a police station near some railway track, we were just lol...
Also we came to know there we 2 Bday boys there, both away from home on their Bdays and amidst a few strangers from Infy...
The journey was just getting interesting... We decided to have some fun and celebrate the Bday with all the guys in the guest house, we got a cake, got all the people assembled in the dining hall, had lunch first and then cut the cake to celebrate the Bdays.
It was fun and amazing experience...

Here are some of the snaps...

On the way back after a hurried lunch and check out from the guest house, i took a taxi with another Infy guy who was taking the same train as me...
Coincidently he studied his Engineering in the same college as some of school and college mates studied, so here again started off a conversation with a stranger and it turned out to be a lot of fun through out the journey...
Reached home at night tired but just happy to be home on a very special day, dint want to be out of home on the 21st...
Was happy to be back and relate the amazing experience i had on my tour to Chennai...
Here I had to be back at work today and had to go through the same routine again...
Chao till the next time...

CHENNAI Tour Dairy - Day 1

I had to visit Chennai for some work on Monday and returned back on Tuesday. It turned out to be a very interesting tour of 2 days for me...
So come along and join me in recollecting my very interesting 2 days...
I had to leave home early on Monday morning... caught a BMTC bus after a long time and boarded the train at the station. Well i had not traveled in a train for a longish journey for more than 5 years or more... It was very exciting. Train journeys always excite me. It is like I am back to being a small kid exploring every bit of the railways station and the train will my very much observatory eyes, just to see what is new at the station and the train from the last time i saw it. I really loved it being in that train on Monday.
Once the train started and half an our into the journey, there was an argument of sorts between a couple of college students and the luggage inspector. This got things going in our cabin. As people in our country do, try to be very much interested as to what is happening. This small argument was put to an end with the luggage inspector saying that the college students have to pay for the luggage they are carrying (which they are not supposed to carry without a proper document). Everyone was just getting back to settling down in the train that we stopped at a station - I think it was KR puram - and a family got into the train and had seats booked in the same cabin as the college students... Here things got heated up a bit and in no time the college students vented all their anger of the luggage inspector on the family. They fought for who should keep their luggage where and what not. They fought with so much ferocity and disturbed a lot of people...
That day our particular compartment had quite a few kiddos who were basically infants (less than a year old). The fight got the mothers of these babies so worried and they too were trying to calm things down to avoid their kids from waking up from their sleep or they worked that little harder to comfort their babies, praying that their kid will not wake up and anticipating that the kid would wake any moment.
The look on a guy - who was sleeping as soon as he got into the train - was worth looking at. I just couldn't stop laughing. Then some elderly people had to give their views to the college students and stop their fight.
The college students in all probability had some bad exam i guess.
The journey continued will all the vendors making very frequent trips to sell their stuff. Also since i woke up early, i very happily took the seat in the top berth and sleep. This was too good a moment. You would always want to take the top berth in a 2 tier or 3 tier train if you were a kid.

Well the journey continued and by late after noon the train chugged towards Chennai central station. I was visiting chennai after 7 years. There had to be some new experience, interesting one of course...
To continue from where I landed in chennai central...
I took a pre-paid auto and met another Infy guy going towards the guest house, we both hopped into the same auto and reached the guest house. we got into the same room and settled down by evening.
We had anticipated the weather to be hot and humid, but it turned to almost the opposite. It was chilly, raining and not so humid. That was a surprise.

Me and my roomie then went out to explore the surrounding area and couldn't resist the hot cup of Chaai and a few hot pakodas in that amazing weather... We then returned to our guest house to hear that India has done really well in the test match. Went to the drawing room and watched tv and we were joined by a couple of other Infy guys...
It seemed so strange cos I instantly realized that I had seen them somewhere, where I do not know. When they joined us and started conversing we found out that they too were from Bangalore. We chatted a bit, got to know each other and then went back to our rooms.
Post dinner, me and my roomie wanted to plan for the next days work and prepare ourselves, but were very often distracted and kept cracking jokes and spent almost an hour laughing about and chilling. We had enough of it and decided it was time to sleep.
We had arranged for taxis to travel the next day and My travel was early at 6:15 am. Had to wake up very early...
Keeping this in mind hoped for a good sound sleep...

Will keep you posted on Day 2, more fun and more interesting things happen...

On Top of the World

Sachin Tendulkar became the highest run scorer in the history of test cricket yesterday and what a moment it was. I couldn't catch the action live as i was at work but then caught up with the highlights and it was amazing to see him raise the bat for 15 runs scored. Fireworks don't go off at day time usually but then we shouldn't keep celebrations for later right?? so there it was, the stage of 3-4 minutes of fireworks at day time to celebrate the a great achievement.
Sachin Tendulkar then crossed the 12000 run mark and this is something no one has done before...
Hope he crosses few more records...
Cheers to Sachin

Shift+Delete DADAgiri

DADA,as he is very well known is being forcefully removed, told to end a career, sort of given a pink slip...
sad very sad that one of the legends of Indian cricket is being shown the door this way. It is made to look like Saurav Ganguly has announced his retirement on his own terms and there is no one forcing him to do so, but the catalyst had been provided and continued to be provided by the previous set of selectors for some time now.
But hey this is not the time to feel bad about his retirement, it is the time to relish what contribution he has made to Indian cricket...
A man who showed to the world that Indians cannot be bullied on the cricket field, who showed that Indians are not losers abroad, who showed that the leader needs to lead by example, provide support to his team mates, who showed emotions on the field and said hey that is how Indians are and who cares what you think about it...
Determination is what he was known for, the spirit of fighting till he got his worth...
Who can forget the shots he played on the off side, who can forget him dancing down the track to hit a spinner out of the ground???
They thought he was long gone after his spat with guru Greg, he had to do an ad with a phrase 'Aap apne DADA ko bhule to nahi?'. How embarrassing it would have been for his to shoot for that ad and say that sentence repeatedly?
He was back and scored against all teams and now cos of one bad series, the previous selectors just provided that bit of spark to ignite the fire. They dropped him out of Irany trophy game and that was it to make him believe that he had to retire.
I cannot once forget what he made Indian team into after the days of match fixing, nor can i forget his contribution to the aggressive India that is known today. Who can forget DADA waving his shirt on the balcony of LORDS. He ruled the world of cricket with his DADAgiri for more than a decade and as every dadagiri has to come to and end, i guess DADA's DADAgiri has to come to an end as well...
I wouldn't exactly call it an end,cos he once told he wants to be India Coach one day, and knowing his determination, he will surely be back...
Well remembering the great batsman for his contribution to Indian cricket, Lets celebrate Saurav Ganguly's career in Rahul Dravid's words - 'On the Off - Side, after GOD, there is Saurav Ganguly'.

CME Day

Last week , I had 2 days of amazing fun...
Parichay gave and amazing evening of fun and talent...
Amazing talent on show on thursday. Revisited Karzzz Parichay style and had a totally different fashion show.
at the end of it there was the DJ night and was hesitant initially. Vijay too was hesitant, but then I met Ranga. Great guy and good dancer. We had danced during the farewell of our training in mysore. He pulled me in and encouraged a lot to try dancing.
Well even after that my body is as stiff as a cucumber when it comes to dancing...
Guess what, he did the same thing as he did just around 2 yrs or more ago...
He pulled us along and i had to oblige...
For half an hour didn't care if anyone was noticing that here is somebody who knows nothing about dancing.... but just enjoyed my time...
It was great fun... All i can say is i was as good as the worst dancer on the floor that night...
Next day was CME day and we had our usual award ceremony and stuff...
Got a beautiful framed certificate this year... then it was all down to the cultural programs...
VIBES- dance troupe gave us a glimpse of what professional dancing is all about... even at their level of professionalism(well i have no idea about their performances and fame) great performance for various kinds of songs...
Amazing performance by our own Infy ppl. There was dance, fashion show and dance again...
Nothing like the Karzzz effect of the previous day...
Great performances when you have only after office hours to practice for the performance...
Fashion show was superb... It was all about India...The MC was an awesome guy... he too was a professional i guess... to keep the attention of the crowd and to involve them in the function was great...
He was a Sidharth lookalike(Actor from BOYS)...
There was DJ night again but didn't have the time nor the company to dance that day...
But i thoroughly enjoyed the time....
With all the fun there was so much learning to do....
Well started in the direction this weekend...
Lets see how much i can implement it....

Commentary

whats with the football commentators nowadays????
I know not many cricket tournys are going on around the world right now and Aus tour of Ind is round the corner, but i guess the football commentators are missing some good cricket during their football matches...
I heard one commentator saying 'Form is temporary and class is permanent!', this one is usually talked about in cricket matches when a great batsman is batting.
Second, another guy said, 'the ball was passed in the region of uncertainty!'. This again is used when a bowler bowls the ball just outside the off stump in cricket...
Well guys just wait for 10 days or so and you wont be missing the cricket anymore...
Just tune in to Aus Vs Ind.
Its just going to be awesome series...
Cant wait to get the tigers maul the kangaroo in our own jungles

Vicious circle

Have you seen the Max NewYork Life ad?
It is lovely. It shows hows in a moment life comes back full circle.
First a guy with long hair who is jogging or crossing the road passes a guy with a wonderful bike and wishes he had one...
Then the guy with a bike sees a couple on a bike and wishes he had a gf too on his bike...
Then the girl who is sitting behind the other guy on the bike sees a lady playing with her small kid and wishes she had a kid...
The mom passes past a jewelery store, sees a diamond necklace on the window and wishes she could afford one and sees that an old guy is buying that necklace for his wife...
The old guy while travelling in his car see the first guy with the long hair at the signal going past him and wished he had hair too... cos he was bald.
They show this in a 30 second ad i guess...
How true is this...
we come across something we see and wish we had that too...
that is how life is i suppose...

Missing link

How are working in a private company, not feeling well, visiting a doctor and a persons Salary connected.
Strange are the ways of life?
A doc asks a patient to go to some other doc for consultation. Reason - the patient refuses to give information about his salary to the doctor.
Is this where the doctors in this country are heading?

Lalbagh flower show

I had this opportunity to visit Lalbagh in Bangalore for the Lalbagh flower show. I had not visited Lalbagh for over 8 or more years I think. Being in Bangalore that is not expected i guess.
It was nice to visit a lot of open space and greenery.
The famous clock of Lalbagh
Nice colorful welcome!!!!!!!!

Venue of the flower show

I had sat on this when I was a kid

With love Lalbagh Bangalore

Some eye catching flowers

Some patterns

Some Marigold and some other flower

A Veena and the Velvet flowers.

The Pink one is Zennia and the other is a nice arrangment of various flowers

There were some cactus as well, as beautiful as the flowers

Some fine art

Some Grape wine in this beautiful garden

Visited this place and it felt like Hampi. Had a look at the almost as beautiful chariot of Hampi as well.

You could take a boat ride to Hampi as well
Had some fun on the way...

Reality struck hard and I came to realize that on the far side towards the Horizon is the reality of Bangalore. The real city that Bangalore now is. Amidst this fast growing city I looked back once again at this beautiful and green place called Lalbagh.

With love to Lalbagh and Bangalore....

Vijay
