Frozen Life and Speech

I have been in the US for a couple of months now, I have noticed something very strange happening with me and with some people around me.
This concerns the way I and some other people speak after coming here. OK I do not mean the accent here. I have not inherited the American accent yet. I still speak in my usual accent that I used to speak say 2 months back when I was in India. I mean, I have noticed that I am using some words or expressions that I never used to use in my life before. I also see my roomie who came in to US almost at the same time as me uses some typical American way of speech.
At work, while walking in the aisles, if an American comes across me or obstruct my way, he usually says Opps!. Well you know what I am using that word a lot nowadays. I do not know why, it is coming out naturally. Then I noticed that I am using the expression, Hmm Hmm! a lot nowadays. Well this one of my flat mate uses frequently.
I do not intend to copy his style of speech but I guess, hearing it daily has got that expression into my speech. I do not know how.
Then there is one very usual American expression that I have noticed from the very first week here at office. There is that sort of artificial smile or half smile expression that I have seen these people put on thier face if one comes across them while walking or if you make an eye contact with them after their umpteen attempts to avoid eye contact.
Well I smile back or greet them if they give such an expression, but I know that I am having some other thoughts in my mind about that expression.
Well I write this in a way to look back at the 2 months and see if the surrounding has so much of an impact on ones speech and how I have succumbed to it as well.

On another note...
Here is something that resembles the life here in winter and how I am feeling now...

We had a snow storm last week. The tree in front of our apartment like most trees and plants here were frozen. Life looked like it had frozen, the roads were full of ice, the trees, the ponds all were covered with ice and snow.
For the last couple of weekends, I have been working and since I am spending quite some time working and not moving about in the flat, I have to give a miss to some other activities. Well I have been feeling the same as the tree above. My life seems to have frozen as well...

Hope to have some better weekends ahead...
